I Meant To Inspire The Youth, Not Target Shatta Wale With My "Dancehall King" Statement - Stonebwoy

Stonebwoy, a highly acclaimed artist in the Reggae/Dancehall genre, has disclosed that his recent confrontations with Shatta Wale during his album launch event were merely words intended to inspire the younger generation.

During his album launch event held at the Polo Beach club on Friday, April 28th, Stonebwoy was captured expressing his grievances to the attendees and his fans in a recorded video.

“Fuck anybody who say they’re the dancehall king. Their mother,” Stonebwoy is heard saying in the video…We’ve been playing a lot so you people are not taking us serious. Do you know how much I put into this? 45 collaborations from Jamaicans, Billboard, grammy what are you talking about?,” he adds.

Stonebwoy's remarks were explicitly associated with his competitor, Shatta Wale, and he received backlash for employing offensive language.

Nevertheless, during a recent interview, Stonebwoy clarified that his remarks were not specifically aimed at Shatta Wale, contrary to popular belief. Instead, he explained that his passionate outburst was intended to motivate the young individuals in attendance.

“In the heat of the moment, I was overwhelmed and wanted to inspire the young artists who were present and were watching me perform that they did not have to look up to anyone as the king of dancehall since there is a lot of work to do”, Stonebwoy told Nana Romeo on Accra FM.

“It was a drop-mic moment and a drop-mic statement…For this event, a lot of Dancehall artists came. It was just overwhelming. So there was a high spirit and sense of duty for those of us the pacesetters to continue to pave the way for those upcoming just as I was doing on the stage at that moment.

“Those were street terms, it was not referring to anybody,” he clarified.
