Students at the Mockingbird Elementary School in Dallas, Texas, USA – had a taste of Ghanaian culture as they had a week of learning about Ghana.
Ghana Week culminated with a parade as the students celebrated learning about a new culture.
According to reporting from a Fox affiliate, the Ghana week entailed the kids “learning about the African country and its nature, economy, culture, art and more!”
Representatives of the DFW Ashanti Group visited the school to take part in the event.
A Ghanaian-born teacher at Mockingbird Elementary organised ‘Ghana Week’ They had learned about other countries and cultures in previous years and decided to focus on Ghana this time – her country of birth.
“We have done this for ten years since 2011. In the past we did Scandinavia, Japan, India… [the kids] were like this year we want to do Ghana because they knew I was born there and came over when I was 3,” she said.
Representatives of the Asanteman Group expressed delight that the children were so open to embracing other cultures, noting it bodes well for future race relations.
