The interim Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) Rex Omar has responded to the rants of Kwaw Kese over his royalties.
A few days ago, Kwaw Kese went on a ranting spree on his Twitter page over his unpaid royalties from GHAMRO. According to Kwaw Kese, he has not received any money after 20 years of doing music.
On Thursday, December 15, 2022, Kwaw Kese tweeted, “20 years of doing music in Ghana and [I’ve] never got[ten] paid any royalties.”
“You rather have to pay DJs to play your music, pay TV [stations] to show your videos, bloggers to blog your content and press media to give you press,” he said.
Responding to Kwaw Kese, Rex Omar told journalist Kwame Dadzie that Kwaw is having about GHc13,000 sitting in their black box.
Kwame reported Rex Omar’s account: “I just spoke to Rex Omar, the interim Chairman of GHAMRO on the claim by Kwaw Kese that he has not been paid any royalties since he started music.
According to Rex Omar, Kwaw Kese used to be part of the old COSGA but when the institution was split into three CMOs by law which birthed GHAMRO, Kwaw Kese is et to update his records. He added that the rapper has been called several times but he has not done that.
