In response to online rumors that he wanted to leave Portugal’s World Cup team, Cristiano Ronaldo said the team is “too strong to be broken by outside forces.”
Former Manchester United striker Fernando Santos was annoyed after he appeared dissatisfied with their 2-1 defeat to South Korea. Additionally, he was reported to have threatened to fly home after his coach benched him for their 6-1 victory over Switzerland in their round of 16 match.
In response, Portugal said that Ronaldo “builds up a unique track record every day at the service of the national team and the country, which must be respected and which attests to the unquestionable degree of commitment to the national team.” They also criticized the rumors as being unfounded.
Since the reports surfaced, the 37-year-old has spoken out, insisting that Portugal is too “close” and “brave” to be affected by outside noise.
In a tweet, Cristiano Ronaldo said: “A group too close to be broken by outside forces. A nation too brave to let itself be frightened by any adversary. A team in the truest sense of the word, which will fight for the dream until the end! Believe with us! Strength, Portugal!”
